Egypt Expects Rush Of Bahraini Tourists

Gulf Daily News: Egypt Air has upgraded its services and is planning to launch promotional offers to its Bahrain customers following an expected increase in visitors to Egypt, says a top official.The airline, which turned 75 this month, has moved its office from Bab Al Bahrain to Shaikh Isa Avenue in Al Sultan Centre, Manama. At the new office it has introduced a dedicated counter to deal with Frequent Flyers and Business Class passengers."In Bahrain Egypt is a very important destination for families and during Eid, National Day and the New Year our flights have been fully booked," Egypt Air country manager Osama Deiab told the GDN."And we are expecting more tourists from Bahrain and hope to add more flights. "We are planning to introduce discount prices during the low season from February to April and they will be lower than other airlines flying to Egypt."Mr Deiab said most visitors to Egypt from Bahrain are Bahrainis and the airline wanted to also encourage expats to travel to the country.He said the airline has recently signed a contract with Star Alliance which allows its customers access to 855 destinations. "They can make Egypt a transit point, stay there for a few days and then go on to their countries," he said."There are daily direct flights to all European countries and the US from Cairo. "I want people to know more about Egypt such as Luxor City, which contains almost a third of the world's antiquities."There are 11 million tourists to Egypt every year and this figure is expected to increase to 14m next year.There were 1.7m tourists from the GCC in 2005 and this grew to 1.9m last year and figures for this year and next year are expected to be higher, said Mr Deiab.In line with the increase, Egypt is planning to build 665 new hotels which will provide 131,000 rooms and Cairo Airport is to be developed.Egypt Air operates three daily flights from Bahrain to Cairo every week, but following an agreement to use seats on other airlines it is now able to offer daily flights to its customers.
