Aksaray-Ding Ancient Monument Restored In Turkmeinstan

www.thegreatsilkroad.com Thanks to the efforts of the scientists from the Institute of History under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan  the restoration of Aksaray-Ding - a unique architectural monument of the 11th-12th centuries, was completed.

The monument is located in twenty kilometers from Gerogly regional centre, in the village of Aksaray (Dashoguz Province).

Aksaray-Ding ("White Palace Tower" in translation) is an ancient construction in the form of two-level tower. The purpose of this construction is debatable. Some scientists believe it to be a mausoleum, whereas others suppose that it was a ceremonial building of a rich country estate of a local ruler or landlord.

The restoration works were financed out of the funds under the International programme "Cultural Heritage Preservation".
