Berlin is the capital for soccer fans, attracting visitors from both home and abroad - most recently since EURO 2006. Burkhard Kieker, CEO of visitBerlin: “The fan mile is an essential during European and World championships. Berlin is looking forward to all guests, who will experience the stadium-like live atmosphere.”
During EURO 2010 up to 300,000 people visited the Fan Mile on Strasse des 17. Juni for each match. The city is hoping that visitor numbers at this year's party in black, red and gold will be high. The organiser is expecting up to 450,000 visitors.
Germany's biggest party zone: Fan Mile, parties and public viewing in Berlin
From 9th June all three German group matches against Portugal, the Netherlands and Denmark, and a quarter final that will hopefully include the German team, will be broadcasted live on video screens on the Fan Mile between the Brandenburg Gate and Yitzhak-Rabin-Strasse, as will the semi-finals and final. But not only there – football fever is sweeping across Berlin: Matches can be followed at public viewing facilities at over 25 other locations across the city. visitBerlin has put together a list of locations at visitberlin.de/en/watching-football.
The gateway to EURO 2012: Poland via Berlin
visitBerlin is expecting lots of visitors to make a stopover in Berlin on their way to Poland and Ukraine. Berlin is, after all, the gateway to EURO 2012 for football fans with tickets to matches in Poland and Ukraine. The next venue in Poznan, Poland, is just under 250 kilometres away. |
