www.tehrantimes.com The Isfahan City Council finally agreed to modify the Jahan-Nama Tower. Isfahan City Council Chairman Abbas Haj-Rasuliha said that all members of the council agreed with the modification of the tower but added that more expert study is required before a final decision can be made. The details have yet to be discussed.
Councilman Mahmoud Mohammadi noted that there were different opinions on the issue, but all the members of the council came to an agreement on its modification.
Although a July 8 deadline was set by UNESCO for the modification of Isfahan’s Jahan-Nama Tower, the Isfahan Justice Department had previously announced that its first hearing on the case would be held in late August.
Experts were worried that Isfahan’s Naqsh-e Jahan Square would probably be added to the UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger, since the calls for modification of the controversial 56-meter Jahan-Nama Tower, which is located west of Naqsh-e Jahan Square, had long been rejected. Naqsh-e Jahan Square is a complex of monuments which was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. |
