www.chnpress.com Patrick Hermes, the president of the Federation of International Polo (FIP) will visit Iran this week to express his willingness for reviving polo races in historic square of Naqsh-e Jahan in city of Isfahan.
During his visit at the invitation of Iran’s Polo Federation, Hermes will attend the triangle friendship cup on the occasion of Rumi year which will be held in the Firouzeh palace complex.
Friendship cup races will be held with the participation of Iranian, French, and Pakistani teams during 5th - 8th of November. Announcing this news, Hamid Heidari, deputy head of Iran’s Polo Federation added that the Federation is organizing these races in honor of Rumi, the Persian poet on the 800th anniversary of his birthday.
“The president of FIP, who is also captain of the French polo team, will meet directors of Iran’s Polo Federation as well as Iran’s Sports Organization, to discuss the possibility for reviving polo matches in the world heritage site of Naqsh-e Jahan square in Isfahan.
Changing the usage of Naqsh-e Jahan square into polo field will revive the historical identity of the square,” Heidari said.
