http://www.irtat.ir/: Iran's Mount Damavand has been submitted to UNESCO's tentative list for registration as the country's first Natural World Heritage Site.
Mount Damavand is the highest elevation of about 5628m (18,406 ft) in Iran. It is an inactive volcanic mountain which was active in the Quaternary Period.
Located in the middle Alborz Range, it is the highest point in the Middle East and the highest volcano in all of Asia.
Snow covers the peak of Damavand throughout the entire year and makes it an important ski resort of Iran. The most important thermal springs there are Ask and Larijan.
Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) believes the world registration of Damavand will help protect the diverse flora and endemic species as well as endangered plants.
