L'Express By Pauline Etienne It is often said that tourists have difficulty finding their way around in Mauritius.
There is a lack of signs on the roads as well as precise information on available tourist facilities. I can easily imagine that a tourist leaves his/her hotel in the morning, hoping that he/she will luckily find that splendid Chamarel he/she has heard so much about and get back to the hotel safe and sound afterwards. Info Guide Mauritius may provide the help they need...
"We felt there was a place for a product such as Info Guide Mauritius on the Mauritian market. A lot of customer research was done prior to working on the format," says Mamad Ally Chamroo, one of the promoters of the project. This is why he decided, with Jacques Lincoln, to launch a book - in French and English - where all the information a tourist might need during a stay in Mauritius can be found.
The first part of the book is dedicated to an overall view of the main towns and tourist villages with detailed plans of town streets. Then it offers a full list of restaurants and hotels with their addresses and phone numbers. The book also includes a list of available sports and leisure facilities, shopping centres as well as tourist attractions...
But this publication could also interest locals. The promoters have provided readers with more "serious" information such as a business guide, a list of embassies and ministries with their addresses and telephone numbers. As pointed out by the minister of Public Infrastructure, Rashid Beebeejaun, in his preface, "this guide will be an excellent tool for tourist professionals, tourists, visitors and the public at large".
Even though a few details need to be revised, it is a laudable initiative. And the promoters promise, "Info Guide will be updated regularly to ensure reliable information for the public". The guide is available at 180 sales outlets including the major hotels, bookshops, supermarkets and hypermarkets around the island. |
