Unique Archaeological Project In Kyrgyzstan’s Chuy Valley

www.the silkroad.com   Unique architectural  monuments  are being restored in Kyrgyzstan’s Chuy Valley.

The work is  being carried out within the framework of UNESCO’s  project "Preservation of the Silk Road monuments of Chuy Valley – Krasnaya Rechka- Navekat, Ak-Beshim- Suyab, Burana-Balasagyn”.

This will lead to the creation of the first archaeological park in Central Asia.

In the 1950s in Krasnaya Rechka village  archeologists found the walls of  an ancient Buddhist shrine dating to the 8th-9th centuries. The walls contained well-preserved elements of inner decor and statues. The sanctuary was surrounded with a  traditional corridor, in the western passage.

Since 2004 the systematic archaeological  works with participation of international experts and Kyrgyz specialists have been undertaken.  This summer   dwelling houses, a palace, a citadel, and necropolis of the Karakhanid epoch were found on the ancient site.
