Iran Uses Satellite Know-How To Preserve Ancient Sites

www.tehrantimes.com Iran is seeking Japan’s cooperation for providing satellite images needed for preservation of historical sites, said a Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (CHTO) official.

Mohammad-Kazem Kholdinasab, the CHTO’s International Department head, added his country is drawing up a draft to present to Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that encourages bilateral cooperation in archaeological excavation, monuments’ renovation, and satellite imagery.

There are also plans to provide a chance for scholars of the two sides to conduct joint studies and research, he explained.

He noted that since Japanese scholars and archaeologists apply the most advanced equipment for satellite imagery and photography, they have the capacity to help their Iranian counterparts preserve historical sites. “Although the process of cooperation with JICA will take a long time, we have achieved useful experiences of joint programs and cooperation with them.”

He also said that CHTO has provided the necessary information through filling in a questionnaire offered by the Japanese company.
