www.fieramilanoexpocts.it/e-press/bit A tourism training facility will be set up at La Maddalena island, in Sardinia. The project will be presented at the next edition of Borsa Internazionale Del Turismo (International Tourism Exchange – BIT). The initiative is sponsored by Fondazione Fiera Milano, the University of Sassari, the Italy’s retailers’ association Confcommercio and the Scuola Superiore del Commercio, del Turismo, dei Servizi e delle Professioni.
A memorandum was signed on May 31st by Alessandro Maida, dean of the University of Sassari, Gaetano Morazzoni, attorney at law, vice-president of Fondazione Fiera Milano and the top executive of Scuola Superiore and Renato Borghi, vice-president of Confcommercio.
The Promoting Committee is chaired by Antonino Menne, attorney at law, whereas the Scientific Committee is presided over by Prof. Francesco Morandi, chair of the Department of Economics, University of Sassari.
Activities will range from master courses on tourism service management, tourism economics and tourism science to courses on leveraging tourism in Sardinia; from training courses designed for tourism professionals and entrepreneurs/employees of domestic tourism companies to tourism analysis, R&D, promotion, technical support and design backed up by supranational relation networks, with special emphasis on the new european programs for the Mediterranean area. Finally, cultural events and seminars on domestic and international tourism-related issues will be organized.
"This project aims at training skilled tourism professionals" explains Morazzoni. "That the Scuola Superiore del Commercio, del Turismo, dei Servizi e delle Professioni is contributing to this initiative is definitely an added value. So far the school has helped train over 500 executives, who are currently holding senior positions in leading Italian companies.
Having Fiera Milano on board will give an important contribution to the rapid growth and consolidation of a center for excellence in tourism".
"We only need to decide the new entity’s legal status and to agree on a business plan together with all participating agencies and institutions" states Mr. Menne. "The center will be a non-profit organization. All post-graduate master courses will be held on La Maddalena island. The synergy with BIT will add strength and prestige to all this".
According to the major of La Maddalena, Mr. Angelo Comiti, "this is a major initiative. The island is at a turning point, with the old, military-based economy being replaced by environmentally friendly tourism".
