Caribbean News Digital:Tour operators have penetrated the Russian market and the move is expected to boost the number of Russian tourists to Uganda. Around 1,200 Russian upper-middle and upmarket tourists visited the country last year.Tourists enjoyed game fishing, wildlife, boat cruises on the Victoria Nile in Murchison Falls and the Kazinga Channel in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. These tourists also took part in adventure sports such as white water rafting, mountain biking, quad biking as well as absorbing the Ugandan culture and history.“Up until now, there hasn’t been a single Ugandan tour operator in the Russian market,” noted Sylvia Kalembe, Senior Information Officer at Tourism Uganda. “Due to the language barrier, it has not been easy to attract Russian tourists.” However, this is changing and Russian tourists are now visiting Uganda, since there are now Ugandans who speak the Russian language.
