Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong is the first Novotel in China to achieve the prestigious Green Globe Certified status under the worldwide Green Globe Certification Program, which recognises the hotel’s commitment to operating at the world’s highest environmental standards in the travel and tourism industry.
Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong was assessed according to eight performance criteria that will guarantee, among other things, better waste management, less pollution, and energy and water consumption control. After a benchmarking phase of 7 months, the Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong was audited in order to obtain Green Globe Certification, and will undergo the same process every year in order to guarantee that the criteria are maintained.
Shane Pateman, General Manager of Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong says “We are delighted and pleased that Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong has achieved Certified status in Green Globe, and our team are excited and supportive about this program. The hotel is conscientious about raising the awareness level of its environmental mission among our guests. We have made significant improvement on energy saving, by revisiting hours of external lighting, ensuring optimum use of low energy lighting, introducing variable speed drives and managing better the use of chilled air. “
All levels of staff were involved with environmental awareness and a series of briefings on the hotel’s commitment to sustainable development, such as tree planting, organic farming and water treatment visits were arranged earlier in the year. A small committee was formed and led by a Green Globe Project Co-ordinator with all levels of staff involved. Each member was designated with a specific responsibility. Staff at Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong are encouraged to share the environmental commitment with guests, suppliers, contractors, agents and wholesale partners. Through the hotel’s guest room towel using program, guests are encouraged to reuse their towels instead of having them re-laundered. Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong also actively reminds their guests to save electricity and water by broadcasting environmental messages on the TVs in the guest rooms.
We are now working already on taking our initiatives to the next level in our efforts to raise our levels in all indicators for the next benchmarking exercise which we will undertake annually. A key focus that these are driving for next year includes reducing our use of paper by 25% in one year.
