Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta has unveiled an exhibition of new paintings by celebrated artist Sasya Tranggono, For Indonesia with Love, to celebrate her 20-year art journey. Senior Editor August Parengkuan of Kompas Daily officially opened the exhibition.
Sasya Tranggono is renowned for her techniques among Indonesia's watercolour artists. The choice of water as a medium for painting is no easy task considering the nature of water, which often moves irregularly on canvas. This method is a refined art that deserves steadfast dedication and experience to master. “The accuracy that is clearly seen in her watercolour technique lies in the arrangement of batik ornaments, which indicated that Sasya truly understands the art in minute detail,” stated Jim Supangkat, curator for this painting exhibition.
Six years have passed since her previous painting exhibition at Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, and this time the theme of wayang - the Javanese art of shadow puppetry - was chosen, reflecting her devotion to Indonesia.
“I see a strong commitment in her as an art ambassador. For the past 20 years, she has dedicated her life to Indonesian painting,” said Vice Chairman of the House Representatives Pramono Anung Wibowo at the opening of the exhibition.
Commenting on the exhibition, Bluebird Group Vice President of Business Development Noni Purnomo said: “Sasya, for me, is a person who is deeply concerned about the progress of Indonesian art."
At the opening, a charity raffle was held to help the people of Papua, followed by a classical Javanese dance by the renowned Bedaya Ela Ela Padnecwara. Famous Javanese traditional dancer Nungki Kusumastuti was the guest star of the dance company.
For Indonesia with Love, a wayang art painting exhibition by Sasya Tranggono, continues in the main lobby area of the Hotel until January 23, 2012. Purchases from the collection may be made through The Gift Shop.
