Jakarta Named Asia's Top Travel Destination On the Rise

The travel website TripAdvisor have recently announced the winners of the 2012 Travelers' Choice of destinations on the rise in Asia and the world, and Jakarta topped the list for Asia, ahead of Kathmandu, Kolkata and Manila.
TripAdvisor, in a press release, said the rankings were compiled based on tourism destinations that had shown the biggest rise in positive feedback and drew the greatest increase in interest from tourists compared with the previous year.
The site named the top 10 risers each for Asia, the South Pacific, North America, South America and Europe.
"It is interesting to see that Jakarta is at the top rank for tourist destinations in Asia, winning over other destinations such as Osaka, Kathmandu, Chiang Mai and Phnom Penh," said Jean Ow-Yeong, a TripAdvisor spokeswoman.
She said the award was given not only based on the rising interest of tourists, but also the increase in positive feedback on hotels, restaurants and activities in the city.
