http://www.modra.sk/ The town of Modra, which nestles picturesquely on the southern slope of the Small Carpathians, celebrated its four hundredth anniversary in 2007.
A project under the European Union's INTERREG programme has now been launched to improve the tourism infrastructure of the town and region.
The Danube Tourist Commission is one of the project partners.
The city has a population of 8,704 and is an excellent centre of hiking.
Modra is famous for its pottery industry. Its blue-and-white porcelain is famous throughout Slovakia.
Besides the main town, there are also other adjacent settlements incorporated in the municipality: former vassalage viticulture village Kráľová and two recreational hamlets of Harmónia and Piesok (also known as Zochova Chata), both located in the woods of Little Carpathians mountains.
