Conventa received Sustainability Award, given by an independent body, Sustainability Events Ltd, for demonstrating a real commitment to sustainability. Conventa namely follows the principles of international sustainable event standards, including BS8901, draft version of ISO20121 and APEX Green Meeting standards, Global Reporting Initiative Event Supplement, and a number of sustainable event guidelines. Accordingly, Conventa followed the 4R principle of rethinking, reducing, reusing and recycling in designing the exhibition stand. Conventa stand was thus made of wooden crates from naturally dried domestic pine, being reused for the 12th time at EIBTM. Table and chairs were made from recycled cardboard and were designed to be reused at future events.
Signage at Conventa stand was made from recycled cardboard and in order to reuse it, 50 % of the signage avoided printing dates. The cardboards with printed dates will be donated to cultural-ecological fellowship Smetumet to be upcycled. In 87,27 %, paper products with 100 % recycled content were used.
Carbon footprint of our travel to and from Barcelona, including transport of exhibit stand elements as well as car and air travel of Conventa team, summed to 1,32 tonnes of CO2 emissions there were offset. In the following weeks Conventa team will report on its energy usage, waste management and the pack-in/pack-out policy. From a social sustainability perspective, Conventa partnered with Idrija Lace Shool that enriches the tradition of making handmade Idrija babin lace. In this manner Conventa promoted Slovenian products and tradition as well as contributing to the local economy.
“The Sustainability Award acknowledges our efforts in introducing a strategic approach to sustainable management of the regional meeting industry show. It shows Conventa is on the right track to drive market transformation toward sustainable meeting industry in South East Europe,” said Miha Kovačič, Conventa organiser. |
