Lesser-known waterfalls of Kerala

Mankayam Mankayam is situated near Palode at Nedumangad Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram district. The place is blessed with the Mankayam River, a tributary of the Chittar River. The Chittar springs on the Chemmunji mountain ranges and passes through the Brimoor forest and attains a fascinating green charm when it reaches Mankayam. Situated at an elevation of around 500 m above sea level, the fertile soil here has yielded lush foliage that houses interesting species of flora. The undulating terrain with rocky patches shelters the Kalakkayam Waterfall, one of the biggest waterfalls in this area.

Nearest railway station: Thiruvananthapuram Central, about 45 km. Nearest airport: Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, about 55 km.
Thirikakkayam Waterfalls The Thirikakkayam waterfall near Karuvalam on the Vaanimel Mountain is a paradise for tourists. Located in the Nadapuram region of Kozhikode district, the place is thronged by tourists from June to December. At Thirikakkayam, water falls from a height of 50 m.
Getting there:
The place is located near Karuvalam on the Vaanimel-Vilangad route. Nearest airport: Karipur International Airport.
Mambara Waterfalls For the travellers to Peechi Dam, Mambara waterfall offers a real feast to the eyes. Situated about 15 km from Peechi, the waterfall attracts a large number of tourists during the monsoon season. One-and-a-quarter hour journey by boat will take you to the spot. The falls can be enjoyed from the boat.
The spot can also be reached by land. After reaching Kanichipparatha from Vadakkancheri via Valkkulambu, one has to walk through the dense forest to reach the waterfalls.
Getting there:
Peechi Dam is well connected to Kochi and Thrissur. It is about 15 km from Thrissur town.
