www.pillars.ps The founders of Pillars, the tourism magazine of Palestine, today announced
the official launch of the new publication. For the first time in the history of modern Palestine, there is now a periodical focusing entirely on Palestine as a tourist destination.
“Many people will wonder if it’s appropriate to even think of promoting tourism in Palestine. Others may simply question our timing,” declared Raed Saadeh, Chairman of the Board of the Arab Hotel Association, the sponsor of Pillars. “We decided to launch this magazine now because our constituency – the tourism business professionals and visitors who have always wanted to visit the Holy Land – have asked us for it. After more than three years of crisis, this magazine is needed now more than ever.”
Tour operators both here in Palestine and throughout the region know that there is another reality beyond the news stories of conflict. Visitors to the Holy Sites who have visited throughout the recent crisis have reported they how surprised they were to find exceptional hospitality and an efficient, modern tourism infrastructure able to support their needs. Questions remain, however, as to whether it is safe to visit, and if so, what can visitors to the Holy Land expect? Pillars magazine will attempt to address these and other important concerns. Pillars will also introduce international visitors and overseas tour operators to the people, places and events that make visiting Palestine a memorable and positive experience.
Will readers pick up the phone and book a trip to Palestine after reading their first copy of Pillars? Perhaps not. Learning more about Palestine today will probably be a process and not a one-time event. That’s why the glossy, full-color magazine will bring new images and stories of Palestine to readers around the world, six times a year and will also provide information resources on-line.
The articles and pictures presented in Pillars are designed to create an enjoyable discovery experience. If successful, Pillars will change attitudes about Palestine. Certainly, as an alternative to broadcast journalism, Pillars presents a new vision of the Holy Land today, from the perspective of local guides, scholars, artists and hospitality professionals. You can meet them in the pages of Pillars, starting with the Special Inaugural Issue, to be released mid-March and distributed both inside Palestine and internationally.
