BEIRUT: Global Blue, one of the world’s leaders in Tax Refund services, published the “Insights into Tourist Spending” report for the first seven months of 2011 in which it highlighted that Lebanon’s tax-free spending rose by 13 percent when compared to the same period last year.
Spending by UAE nationals rallied by 18 percent on an annual basis, while spending by French and Qatari visitors rose by 16 percent and 12 percent respectively, according to Credit Libanais Market Watch.
Meanwhile, Egyptian tourists’ spending fell by 18 percent through July 2011, followed by Jordanian tourists (-7 percent). The lion’s share of spending goes to Saudi tourists (21 percent), followed by Emirati (11 percent), Kuwaiti (10 percent), Syrian (8 percent) and Egyptian (6 percent) tourists.
