In an old part of the city of Termez restorers are reconstructing the mausoleum of Al Khakim at-Termezi - a burial place of the famous Muslim scientist and a popular pilgrimage site.
The faculty of history in Termez university is assisting with the project.
Khakim At-Termezi, founder of the Khakimi dervish order is the spiritual patron of Termez . The architectural complex was built from early 9th century and during several subsequent centuries. It consisted of a mausoleum, an aivan mosque and khanaka - the house for pilgrimage for dervishes.
Originally, the mausoleum consisted of a dome construction with simple and ascetic decoration, but later the building interior was decorated by a rather rich ornament. In the late 14th century a new burial - vault with the grand carved marble tombstone was erected next to the mausoleum's facade.
The instructive description of the saint's life was inscribed on the walls. |
