Uzbekistan Reconstructs Mausoleum Of Al Khakim At Termezi

www.uzbektourism.uz Revival of monuments of ancient architecture, is being given top priority in Ubzekistan as the country aspires to preserve the monuments of history left by ancestors, for the future generations.

In an old part of  the city of Termez restorers  are reconstructing the  mausoleum of Al Khakim at-Termezi - a burial place of the famous Muslim scientist and a popular pilgrimage site.

The faculty of history in Termez university is assisting with the project.

Khakim At-Termezi, founder of the Khakimi dervish order  is the spiritual patron of Termez . The architectural complex was built from early 9th century and during several subsequent centuries. It consisted of a mausoleum, an aivan mosque and khanaka - the house for pilgrimage for  dervishes.

Originally, the mausoleum consisted of a dome construction with simple and ascetic decoration, but later the building interior was decorated by a rather rich ornament. In the late 14th century a new burial - vault with the grand carved marble tombstone was erected next to the mausoleum's facade.

The instructive description of the saint's life was inscribed on the walls.
