Soneva Kiri introduces Intelligent Luxury to Thailand’s Last Frontier – Koh Kood

Six Senses' Hub, Bangkok - March 09, 2009: 11o 41'50"N by 102o 31'60"E are the coordinates to discover the newest example of Soneva's celebrated Intelligent Luxury - Soneva Kiri. Located on the island of Kood, to the south-east of the Gulf of Thailand and around 160 nautical miles from Bangkok, the setting for this extraordinary resort definitely falls into the category of remote. However modernday

Robinson Crusoes need not feel challenged, as every effort has been made to make the destination very accessible for guests.

Previously, the journey would have taken more than three hours from the capital, by air and sea; but with the introduction of Soneva Kiri's own 8-seat, specially fitted, luxurious Cessna Grand Caravan, the flight time is less than one hour from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport to Soneva Kiri's private airstrip on a tiny adjoining island. The transfer to Soneva Kiri takes just five minutes in a stylish Aqua Sense speed boat, created to reflect the elegant days of private boating. A shame, actually, as the Aqua Sense craft is a real joy, and a longer trip in it would be even more fun. But then, to arrive at Soneva Kiri is the real reward.

Koh Kood has been described as Thailand's last frontier. And quite righty, with so much development focus being on the other side of the Golf of Thailand. Traditional places such as Phuket, Samui and Hua Hin, and the emerging locations beyond Phuket such as Yao Noi and Naka. This was a significant factor is choosing Kood island for the remarkable Soneva Kiri. It fulfilled Six Senses founders, Sonu and Eva Shivdasani, positioning of Soneva as remote but accessible, while being able to deliver intelligent luxury in an exclusive setting for their high-end clients.

Virtually untouched, Koh Kood has beautiful rain forests, natural mangrove swamplands fringing parts of the island, waterfalls and some fascinating wildlife inhabitants. This is an idyllic backdrop in which to showcase the Six Senses core purpose of creating innovative and enriching experiences that rejuvenate our guests' love of SLOW LIFETM : Sustainable-Local-Organic-Wholesome Learning-

Inspiring-Fun-Experiences. From responsible water activities to nature trekking,

Koh Kood offers an abundance of natural choices, while Soneva Kiri itself presents a host of unique experiences and personalised service standards that have become synonymous with the Soneva brand.

Editor's Note:

Six Senses is a resort and spa management and development company established in 1995, which manages resorts under the brand names Soneva by Six Senses, Six Senses Hideaway, Six Senses Latitude and Evason, plus Six Senses Spas and SixSenses Destination Spas.

Six Senses SLOW LIFE positioning philosophy:

Sustainable-Local-Organic-Wholesome Learning-Inspiring-Fun-Experiences.

Soneva by Six Senses - Intelligent Luxury.

Soneva is committed to offer luxuries of the highest international standard in an environment that nurtures the indigenous feel in design, architecture and service; fusing nature with guest experiences and creating destinations unto themselves. A Soneva resort has a limited number of accommodations, all offering generous personal space.

There are currently two multi-award-winning Soneva properties - Soneva Fushi in the north Baa atoll of the Maldives, and Soneva Gili in the Male' Atoll. Soneva Kiri will be the third Soneva on the planet. Scheduled to open in July 2009, Soneva Kiri is set follow its sister properties as a benchmark for environmentally responsible tourism, whilst offering the level of luxury and personal service that has become synonymous with Soneva.
