www.thegreatsilkroad.com Over the last years alongside with ecotourism, Silk Road tourism, mountaineering and trekking Kyrgyzstan has been developing pilgrimage tourism.
Popular places of pilgrimage include the famous Suleiman -Mount in Osh, memorial complex in Safed-Bulan village, "Padisha-Ota" mausoleum, and "Manjyly-Ata" complex well-known far beyond Kyrgyzstan.
The Ton valley used to be a burial area for nomadic tribes of the Saki and Usuni. One can meet here many stones with petroglyphs, medieval tombs, the ruins of ancient settlements as well as centuries-old tumuli. On the territory between Bokonbayevo and Tosor villages there is a holy place, where according to the popular legends there was buried the great soothsayer.
Many pilgrims from Kyrgyzstan as well as from neighbouring countries come to worship this place. The local citizens do much in order to develop this area. Thus there was built the mausoleum of the old wise man Manjyly-Ata whose spirit is said to create many good things.
A special lodging for pilgrims, a kitchen where the funeral repast can be prepared, and a site for praying were built here too. The complex is surrounded by 13 springs which are believed to bring health and to fulfill the wishes. The water in each of these springs has different taste and healing power. |
