The Peninsula: Washington has been added to the list of destinations to be serviced by Qatar Airways from this year. This is in addition to the previously-announced flights to New York. The airline will be flying to Geneva beginning this summer along with the US destinations. Stockholm is slated to be added later this year, a release said.
Scheduled flights to Chennai, Bali and Ho Chi Minh City will begin towards the end of March. Speaking at a press conference on the first day of ITB Berlin — the world's biggest travel fair — Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Akbar Al Baker said: "Our first move into the US market this summer represents an important step in the history of Qatar Airways as we launch not one, but two destinations in North America. The addition of New York and Washington will provide Qatar Airways with access to two key cities and a gateway to the rest of the US."
Qatar Airways will fly to Chennai daily starting from March 24 and Bali flights will begin on the same date. Bali will be serviced four times a week. On March 25, the airline will launch its flights to Ho Chi Minh City, where it will fly four times a week.
On June 28, flights to both Geneva and New York will commence. Each of these destinations will be serviced four times a week. From November, the airline will fly four times a week to Stockholm. Daily flights to Washington will begin some time this summer.
Qatar Airways has increased frequency on several routes beginning March 25, which is considered to be the start of the summer flying season. The airline will fly to Muscat twice a day, Abu Dhabi 42 flights a week, Kuwait (28), Algiers, four flights a week non-stop, Tunis four flights a week non-stop, Casablanca, Osaka, Vienna, Athens, Mumbai, Cochin, Hyderabad and Dar es Salaam will have daily flights. Tehran will have 10 flights a week.
Mumbai's service has been upgraded with the introduction of new wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft.
"By expanding our operations, this reinforces Qatar Airways' strategy of serving key business and leisure cities around the world," Al Baker said.
He also said the airline was keen to increase frequencies in flights between Qatar and Germany. The airline currently flies to Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich.
