The region's motor show returns to Qatar in January 2012

Motoring enthusiasts, avid collectors, global industry leaders and auto specialists will meet once again in Doha for the second international edition of the Qatar Motor Show held from January 25 to 28, 2012 at the Doha Exhibitions Center. Organizers have confirmed that January 23 and 24 and will be days dedicated for press and trade professionals. The show, held under the patronage of Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani, is organized by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) in partnership with q.media Events and GL Events.
Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority expressed his optimism about the success of the event and its positive impact on Qatar. "Qatar Tourism Authority is pleased to work with q.media Events to organize the Qatar Motor Show again in 2012. The first edition in 2011 was very successful - a benchmark event for Qatar. Not only was the event rewarding for domestic tourism, we also had a significant number of regional visitors coming to Qatar during the show days. The event further strengthens Qatar's position as a leader in bringing businesses together in the region - for trade as well as exhibitions."
"The positive feedback and enthusiasm from the premiere edition held this past January was beyond our expectations," said H.E Sheikh Alhussain Bin Ali Bin Ahmed Al-Thani, CEO of q.media. "Our objective was to bring together global automobile brands, industry leaders and auto enthusiasts to an automotive event that not only raises and defines the new standard of motor shows in the region, but establishes Qatar as a platform for dialogue and debate on global themes and challenges facing society."
The platform was the The First Middle East Automotive Summit, which was the perfect prelude in setting the tone for the first international edition of the Qatar Motor Show,. The theme of the summit, "The Future of the Automobile", included presentations by such distinguished speakers as His Excellency Prime Minister David McAllister, Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Germany, and Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Volkwagen Group, Plenary speakers and panelists from the global automotive industry and stakeholders from key global interest groups discussed and debated the global vision for mobility. The summit was attended by over 370 high profile business, government and industry representatives.
With close to 90,000 visitors attending the 3-day event, the first international edition of the Qatar Motor Show was the most popular event on the 2011 exhibition calendar. There were 26 premieres, including 6 world-firsts, and 11 regional reveals from important names including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Maserati, MINI and more. 85 exhibitors showcasing 135 car brands occupied the entire 15,000 square meters of the Doha Exhibitions Center. More than 14,000 square meters of outdoor space were transformed into an open-air motorsport stadium where 100 test drives took place in addition to drifting competitions and FMX shows.
The 2012 Qatar Motor Show promises to build on this success. For its international inaugural debut, the 2012 Qatar Motor Show was a sponsor of the Automotive News Europe Congress, the most important automotive industry conference in Europe, held in Cologne on June 29th and 30th.
The theme of this year's congress was "The New Europe: Winning Strategies for Uncertain Times", exploring themes such as the future of mobility, purchasing strategies in a reorganized Europe, and cooperation opportunities for automakers and suppliers. European auto industry leaders, including executives at Ford Europe, Volkswagen Group, Fiat Group and Toyota Motor Europe, presented during the debates.
The calendar leading up to the show in January 2012 will include many other exciting local, regional and international activities. The 2012 Qatar Motor Show will once again be a premium auto show with the latest car models, concept cars, super cars and futuristic cars from the most renowned global style centres and car designers. As the only show in the region involving a truly interactive experience, visitors will again be thrilled as they participate in a truly immersive and dynamic event. Organizers confirm that the outdoor track and activities will be a mainstay of the motor show, serving as the venue for drifting competitions, motocross demonstrations as well as test drive sessions of the latest car and SUV models. Spectators will also be able to enjoy professional driving tips with demos from leading experts.
