DOHA: Hotel occupancy in Qatar rose by 12 percent in 2010 compared to 2009 and guests on business visas outnumbered those visiting the country on tourist visas, according to data released by the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) on Tuesday.
QSA's annual report on statistics of Information, Culture and Tourism 2010 said that the number of hotel guests with business visas in the year stood at 333,000 against 320,000 on tourist visas.
Qataris and other GCC nationals formed 31 percent of the total hotel guests during 2010. The highest number of guests were Qataris-348,000 -- followed by Saudi nationals who came second, with 100,000 guests.
The months of March, October, November and December were the most active months for hotels in Qatar while January and August were the leanest months.
The report included the most important data on the statistics of media, culture and tourism. It provided vital statistics on radio, television, cinema, libraries, newspapers, magazines, theatres, museums, hotels, mosques as well as data related to the zoo and the Social Development Center.
The number of cinemas in Qatar rose from 25 in 2009 to 38 in 2010. The number of movie goers reached 1.53 million in 2010- an increase of 165,000 compared to the previous year
