The number of people travelling out of the country dropped by 30 to 35 percent during August that coincided with Ramadan, compared to the previous months, according to travel industry sources. The drop has been attributed to the fact that most expatriate families had left the country before Ramadan for the summer holidays.
However, flight bookings to Saudi Arabia rose manifold during Ramadan due an increase in the number of nationals and expatriates going there to perform Umrah.Ramadan and Eid fell in between the school holidays this year. With all the schools scheduled to re-open next week, all incoming fights from various countries remain fully booked.
"Flight bookings dropped by 30 to 35 percent during August, after a sudden rise following the closure of schools. We are expecting a revival in business ahead of Eid Al Adha," Al Sharq quoted a travel executive as saying.
