www.visitmorocco.org Since 1975, the UN identifies, protects and preserves extraordinary places or monuments in Morocco that have an exceptional value for humanity. To the north, you will admire the unrivalled medina of Tétouan, which UNESCO naturally selected for having maintained its unique style, a blend of Andalusian and Arab influences.
Heading southwards, stop at Meknès. The impressive eleventh century mixed architecture is on the list since 1996. A few kilometres further, you may admire the vestiges of Roman town planning. Volubilis is the largest ancient site of Morocco . The Fez medina is also selected by UNESCO. The first Moroccan site to join the list in 1981, its Islamic layout is a model in its genre.
Two other prestigious places are on the Atlantic coast: the Portuguese town of Mazagan and the Essaouira medina. In the centre, the sumptuous Marrakech medina and the surprising ksar Aït-Ben-Haddou, in the region of Ouarzazate.
North, South, East and West… all the regions of Morocco are honoured by at least one UNESCO listing. Whatever your destination, you will be sure to be able to visit one of the most prestigious sites in the world.
