Included are visits to traditional markets, accommodation in rural haciendas, some time in Cuenca, (centre of the Panama Hat industry) and the spectacular glaciated valleys in El Cajas National Park.
The highlight is exploring the most important Inca and Pre-Inca archaeological site in Ecuador at Ingapirca and climbing the slopes of the country’s highest peak Chimborazo (6,000m).
In BaÙŒos, mountain-biking, hiking to waterfalls and soaking in a hot-spring and in the Amazon Basin, canoing downstream to a jungle lodge with an Amazonian expert and local guides are planned.
The tour also includes night time hikes and canoe explorations beneath impenetrable forest canopies, emerging to follow the ‘Avenue of the Volanoes’ towards Quito, stopping at the crater lake of Cuicocha (Guinea Pig) at the foot of Volcلn Cotacachi.
Otavalo, venue for one of the most memorable indigenous markets in South America is another remarkable highlight before the tour concludes in Quito – the world’s second highest capital city, perched right on the equator. |
