Traveling to Edmonton from the UK has never been easier with the introduction of three non-stop flights per week from Heathrow to the Edmonton International Airport starting October 31, 2006. Daily non-stop flights will be offered come April 1, 2007.
“Air Canada ’s strong commitment to providing direct air service from the UK coincides with the Alberta capital’s unprecedented boom in industry, trade, immigration and tourism,” according to Ken Fiske, Vice President, Tourism, Events and Motion Pictures for Edmonton Tourism. Edmonton is the research, manufacturing, transportation, logistics and supply hub for more than $85 billion in projects slated for northern Alberta in the next decade. That’s literally the fuel that is stoking one of the hottest and most diverse economies in Canada .
Edmonton is renowned as Canada ’s festival city, hosting more than 30 arts and cultural festivals throughout the year. The region offers diverse recreational pursuits for all interests – cosmopolitan delights, fine dining, stellar shopping and historic attractions. West Edmonton Mall, the greatest indoor show on Earth, is a shopper’s dream with more than 800 stores, restaurants and attractions, including a water park and an indoor midway complete with roller coaster. Visitors will also find a multitude of wilderness adventures just outside of the city limits.
Golf enthusiasts can choose from more than 70 golf courses in and around the city, and, at 7,400 hectares, Edmonton 's North Saskatchewan River Valley is the largest stretch of urban parkland in North America . There are 22 major parks and more than 150 kilometres of trails on which you can enjoy walks, bike rides, picnics, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and more. No wonder it’s become known as the Ribbon of Green.
Visitors are assured of plenty of sun and beautiful blue skies during their visit, regardless of the season. At the height of summer, the days seem endless with close to 17 hours of sunshine.
The city serves as a vital launching point for business and leisure travelers, with convenient air service to Canada ’s booming northern cities, including Yellowknife and Fort MacMurray . Edmonton also serves as the gateway to Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies and myriad opportunities for fishing and wilderness adventures throughout Northern Alberta .
Air Canada ’s new non-stop flights from London will help position Edmonton as a preferred destination and a starting point for UK travelers seeking fresh new adventures in tourism.
