Middle East fashionistas will be flocking to Singapore this summer to enjoy huge savings on luxurious, internationally-renowned brands, as well as exclusive one-off designs by some of the world’s hottest, up-coming labels during this year’s ‘Great Singapore Sale’ (GSS).
The sale runs throughout June and July offering up to 70 percent discounts on fashion, jewellery and accessories in retail outlets across the country, from the large department stores of Singapore’s world famous Orchard Road, and the new The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, to small boutiques located in Singapore’s unique neighbourhoods, such as Haji Lane in the city’s Muslim district.
The GSS comes hot on the heels of Singapore’s Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX), the region’s premier fashion event that mirrors the likes of the London, Paris, Milan and New York fashion weeks in promoting the region’s fashion industry in Asia Pacific.
In its second year, AFX is proving to be a successful mix of cat-walk shows, trade exhibitions and talent development programmes that aim to find the most-promising local designers through the Star Creation competition.
“Singapore is fast becoming Asia’s fashion capital, with a mix of the latest high-end luxury labels and unique pieces from the hottest up-coming Asian designers. This summer Middle East visitors can find the very best of global fashion across Singapore at fantastic prices as part of the Great Singapore Sale,” said Jason Ong, Area Director for the Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.
For brand conscious shoppers from the Middle East the latest and most luxurious addition to Singapore’s shopping is The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore’s first large-scale luxury shopping destination filled with exclusive brands such as Chanel, Burberry, Coach and Gucci. Marina Bay Sands will also be the site of the region’s flagship Louis Vuitton store, which is due to open towards the end of the year in a floating crystal-shaped pavilion.
Then there’s Singapore’s most famous shopping street, Orchard Road, which offers an array of fashionable shopping malls, such as the ION Orchard, that bring together high-end brands such as Rolex-Tudor, Prada and Oroton, as well as up and coming local Singaporean designers, under one roof.
Hot Singapore-based designers to look out for include the internationally acclaimed label alldressedup, spearheaded by Singaporeans Lionel Leo and Tina Tan-Leo – it is a contemporary, stylish and innovative fashion label inspired by Asian artisans and folk art. Another is local label Raoul, which has evolved over a decade from a shirt collection to men’s and women’s ready-to-wear.
For more eclectic fashion, Haji Lane, with a rich Islamic history and culture located just off Arab Street, welcomes visitors seeking a unique fashion experience, offering special one-of-a-kind pieces and distinctive accessories not seen anywhere else.
The ‘Great Singapore Sale’ is running from 27 May to 24 July. For more information go to: http://www.greatsingaporesale.com.sg/2011/english-html/intro.html |
