www.zaman.comThe Turkish ceramic sector is to promote itself as the original producer of ceramics through the ancient settlement of Zeugma, an indicator of cultural and historical richness.
The 17th International Unicera Ceramic and Bathroom Fair was opened thisweek at the Tuyap exhibition center in Istanbul. Talking at the opening, Chairman of the Ceramic Federation Adnan Polat said that they had decided on the Gaia figure identified with Zeugma mosaics as their new symbol.
Pointing that the first ceramic production occurred in Catalhoyuk, a town of the southeast province of Turkey near Gaziantep, in 6000 B.C, Polat went on: "Therefore, our slogan will be 'the history of ceramics was written in Turkey, its future is also in Turkey'. We trust our production and export volumes.
If we gain support to make the necessary promotion, our ceramics will reach their deserved place in the world." Artist Metin Kafkas' "Gaia" figure was also exhibited at the opening of the fair. The mosaic made from ceramics similar to the original and is 1.25 meters by 1.80. The fair exhibits work from 296 firms from 13 countries. Kitchen 2005, the 6th Kitchen Bathroom and Built-in Equipments Fair is also on show in other halls. |
