The archaic city Afrodisias and Little Haghia Sophia Mosque in Turkey have been listed on the ''2006 World Watch List'', which have been announced by the Fund and includes 100 ancient monuments. The Fund takes the buildings and the structures, which are in danger of vanishing over the world and believed to be preserved, into watch list. Meawhile, Haghia Sophia, Ephesus, The Nemrud, St. August Temple in Turkey had been listed in the list before.
Little Haghia Sofia, known as the work of the oldest Byzantium in Istanbul, has been seriously damaged. The fund officials say the mosque is in danger of collapsing and have included it in the list for four years running to draw attention to the issue. into the list of 2006 as well. They also declared that the places in the list might be removed in time. Of the fund officials, John Stubbs said the historic artifacts and the buildings, which are being worked on, and have attention from the governments and supported by the people, are gradually excluded in the list. Pointing that some places in Turkey, which have been listed before, are no longer on the list. Stubbs went on say: ''Therefore, Little Haghia Sophia Mosque has been on our list for a long time. In the event that precautions are not taken immediately, we are worried that the centennial work is in danger, which cannot be rebuilt''.
The archaic city of Afrodisias in the city of Aydin in Turkey, which has been listed in 2005 for the first time, is known as one of the best preserved Roman works. Excavations to find out the condition of the city were led by the Professor Kenan Erim in 1961. The excavation works, which are still supported by the New York University, have been expected to continue for a long time.
