Visitors Flood to Historical Spots in Istanbul

www.zaman.com The museums and historical places of Istanbul, which hold the traces of centuries-old civilizations, were visited by 7,610,300 people in 16 months.
Information released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Turkish Grand National Assembly Directory of National Palaces revealed that in 2005, 7,610,300 national and international tourists visited 19 palaces and museums in Istanbul, often frequented by presidents, prime ministers and other state officials.
Topkapi Palace, the administrative palace of the Ottoman Empire, was the most visited place by 2,469,398 international and 1,115,127 national tourists.
The second most visited place after Topkapi was the Hagia Sophia museum by 1,540,700 international and 604,632 national tourists totaling 2,145,332.
Karia Museum was visited by 252,356, while 232,739 people visited Archeology Museum and 119,607 people visited the Museum of Turkish Islamic Masterpieces. |
