www.zaman.com The Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair opened this week at Lutfi Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Center. The fair is a highlight for Turkish artists and art lovers.
Sculptures, photographs, and digital art works of 49 galleries, 10 nonprofit organizations, nine artist initiatives, and over 150 artists worldwide are on display at the exhibition.
Contemporary foreign artists, including Andy Warhol, George Baselitz, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Alex Katz as well as Turkish artists Azade Koker, Inci Eviner, Haluk Akakce, Huseyin Caglayan, Esat Tekand, Mehmet Guleryuz and Nur Kocak are on display in the exhibition. The most expensive work on display is Feng Shui II by James Rosenquist worth €428,000.
Art Estate, the founder of the first art forum in the world, is displaying works of 30 prominent artists. such as Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Sigmar Polke, A.R. Penck, Markus Lupertz, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Tom Wesselmann, Frank Stella and James Rosenquist.
The Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair, which is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors, will be held simultaneously with the 2007 Istanbul Biennial next year.
