Balkan Federation of Travel and Tourist Agencies Associations (BAFTAA) Chairman Iannis Evangelou said that they would tell their people that there was not any atmosphere of terrorism in Istanbul.
The seventh meeting of BAFTAA, which was established in March by travel agencies of Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia-Montenegro, Macedonia, Romania and Croatia under leadership of Turkish Travel Agencies Union (TURSAB), was held in Istanbul last week.
Speaking in press conference held before the meeting, Evangelou drew attention to international dimension of terrorism.
Noting that they came to Turkey, Evangelou said that life was normal in Istanbul and there was not any atmosphere of terrorism. He added that they would tell their people that there was not any atmosphere of terrorism in Istanbul when they returned to their countries.
Dejan Premovic, the Chairman of Travel Agencies Association of Serbia-Montenegro (YUTA), pointed out that they could never know what could happen and when and where it could happen.
Premovic noted that they should protect Turkey in case of such an incident as if it happened in the Balkans.
Because, he said, if Turkey suffered losses in regard to friendship and business due to such an incident, the Balkans would also suffer the same loss.
TURSAB Chairman Basaran Ulusoy said that Evangelou was the first person to call him after the bomb attacks in Turkey, adding, ''Greece, which was our biggest rival in the Mediterranean basin, has become our best friend.''
Condemning calls to refrain from visiting Turkey, Ulusoy expressed belief that those words would be corrected.
Ulusoy said that international terrorism ended the freedom of traveling and all countries could face its damages.
They were calling international tour organizers and telling them that Turkey needed their support today and reminding them that it could happen to those countries in the future, Ulusoy stated.
Ulusoy said that they planned to invite administrators of world tourism organizations to Istanbul next February or March and hold a meeting on this issue.
Replying to questions, Ulusoy said that some reservations were cancelled following recent attacks in Istanbul.
Ulusoy noted, ''five percent of reservations have been cancelled. These cancellations were made by Britain and Italy.''
Pointing out that the government should extend more support to Culture and Tourism Ministry, Ulusoy added, ''the prime minister should bring fight against terrorism onto agenda of EU. He should visit EU countries and search for solution of this common problem with officials in these countries.''
