Instead of the 'low quality works' published formerly by the Ministry, it will focus on 'prestigious works' in future publication periods.
The style and publication quality of future works will be similar to "Ottoman History" by Halil Inalcik which was published. The Ministry plans to publish books in Turkish and English and will strive to publish its own work projects instead of using foreign offers for publication.
In a briefing about the publication policy of the Ministry, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Undersecretary Mustafa Isen, said that claims that the 'ministry will not publish books' does not reflect the reality; but conceded they will be 'more selective' from now on.
He said, "Those types of books such as poems, novels, plays, articles, and essays will not be published; however, if a qualified poet comes to us with a request to publish, then of course we will publish it." He said that the Ministry has determined a new publication policy; therefore, those books that are of interest in the private sector will not be published.
In the context of the new publication policy, Isen said that 'Selcukis and Hackneyed Era Project,' 'Turkish Literature History Project,' and the 'Turkish Miniatures Project' will be completed.
Isen said that many books published in quantities of 5,000 in previous terms have not been sold and are waiting in depots. Isen said that those books will be sent to Turcology Centers abroad. |
