Turkish Literature in the West

The Culture and Tourism Ministry will initiate, "Opening Turkish Literature to the West," a project to promote classical works of Turkish literature.
Stories by Sait Faik Abasiyanik, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar's, "Huzur" (Per Diem), and a selection on Divan poems will, for the first time, be published in Western languages.
An English translation of a Sait Faik story will hit the stands in September. Immediately after, Tanpinar's, "Huzur," will be published.
In January 2005, Hilmi Yavuz's poems and the literary works of Turkish masters such as Yahya Kemal Beyatli, Ahmet Hasim, Resat Nuri Guntekin, Halit Ziya Usakligil will follow the selection of Divan poetry that will be published in late 2004. |
