www.accra-mail.com As well as trying to capture the European tourist market Libya is also discussing tourism with African countries. Ghana and Libya have agreed to boost tourism during a meeting between the Ghanian Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and the Libyan Ambassador Mr Mohamed Tareq Al Garmudi. The ambassador recently called on the Minster to share ideas about the growth of the tourism industry in the two countries.
The two agreed that the modalities would have to be worked out to the benefit of the two countries.
Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey said African investors were mostly willing to go into long-term investments when investing in African countries and said Ghana was linking up with Togo, Benin, Egypt, South Africa and very soon with Libya to attain a bigger tourism market to attract a lot more investors, including African investors.
He called on African countries to encourage African investors to invest in the industry.
Mr Al Garmudi said Libya has realised that tourism is becoming a big source of income and is in the process of allowing the private sector to invest in the industry.
Currently, he said, Libya has allocated between six and seven billion dollars towards tourism development in that country.
In another development, Libyan Arab Airlines began operating one flight a week, between the Niger city of Agadis and Sebha city in southern Libya. |
