Jamahiriya News Agency: Amidst celebrations marking the 37th anniversary of Great Al-Fatah Revolution, a ceremony was in Tripoli to inaugurate Zmeet Hotel, one of the historical hotels built 200 years ago which was renovated as a tourist hotel while preserving its historical and architectural characteristics.
Dr. Eng. Mohammed Muammar al-Gathafi, Secretary of People's Committee for Public Post and Telecommunications Company, unveiled the memorial plaque announcing the inauguration of the hotel.
The inscription on the plaque read: Amidst celebrations on the 37th anniversary of Great Al-Fatah Revolution and in execution of the Libyan Leader’s guidance to promote tourism, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Muammar al-Gathafi reopened the ancient Zmeet Hotel in the city of Tripoli on 20 September, 2006.
The hotel that covers an area of 800 square meters . It consists of two stories comprising 10 rooms furnished in traditional style, in addition to four suits, halls, a traditional coffee shop communication facilities and tourist services.
Dr. Eng. Mohammed Muammar al-Gathafi emphasised that the opening of this hotel demonstrates Libya’s commitment to preserving its unique, cultural heritage. He expressed his thanks to all those who participated in this work and to those who seek to support all initiatives aimed at developing the country’s historical sites and traditional architecture.
This historical hotel is located in an ancient area of the northern facade of the old city in Tripoli. It was once a meeting point for trade caravans between Europe and Africa travelling across Libya, Africa’s northern gate. |
