Libya Inaugurates A Billion Euro New Airport

www.afrol.comThe construction of a billion euro new airport, which is expected to welcome over 20 million travellers a year, has began in the Libyan capital Tripoli. According to the project Director Abdel Majid Saddah, the magnificent project which is being supervised by a French research consultancy group, will be implemented by six companies including Vinci of France, Oderbrecht of Brazil and TAV of Turkey.

The over 1,000 hectare project is capable of handling at least 100 planes. It will have a parking capacity for 4,400 vehicles.

Libya has earmarked two billion euro for the modernisation of other airports in the desert country.

Libyan Transport Minister, Mohammed Abu Ajila, was optimistic that the new edifice would result to radical change in Libya’s air transport industry.

The new Tripoli International Airport will create a fundamental change in air transportation, attract and develop air travel and cargo movement between the Libya and the rest of the world, particularly the European Union.

It is also expected to open new service centers to support air transport and magnetise international investment to create unprecedented horizons to economic tourists as well as create more job opportunities in the country.

Libyan government has also prepared programmes on development and maintenance of sea ports. Billions of euro have been earmarked for the development of 160 road projects covering more than 13,000 km.

More than 25 Libyan companies have been lined up to execute the road and sea port projects.
