The U.S. said this week it would renew the ban on U.S. citizens visiting Libya for a year but would review it every three months, a signal Washington could ease some sanctions
if Tripoli addressed U.S. concerns on terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. "The Department of State will review this restriction every three months while it remains in effect." "We're closely monitoring developments in Libya and have decided that reviewing the (travel) restriction every three months allows us to take into account whatever developments there might be," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters.
A lifting of the travel an could make a difference to Libya' s tourist industry. Increasing numbers of European tourists are visiting Libya and the lifting of the travel an in America could significantly boast the industry's earnings.
