www.zaman.com Photographs of the reconstruction process of the historical Mostar Bridge are being exhibited in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Mayor of Mostar and former technical director of the Paris Saint German football team Vahid Halilhodzic attended the exhibition's opening organized by the Bosnia-Herzegovina permanent representative office to UNESCO.
Authorities from Bosnia-Herzegovina and UNESCO thanked Turkey who played a prominent role during the reconstruction of the Bridge in particular.
Bosnia-Herzegovinian diplomats gave inside information that an official application has been submitted to UNESCO for the Mostar Bridge asking to include the bridge on the list of historical monuments under protection. Announcing that UNESCO will make its final decision on the issue in July, diplomats expressed hope that the Mostar Bridge will make the list. Croatian mortars had destroyed the historical Bridge, which is one of the masterpieces of the Ottoman architecture, on 9 November 1993 during the Bosnian war; however, it was restored and reopened for use in a ceremony held in 2004. |
