Jeddah To Host Summer Fest From July 12th

eTN The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has disclosed that the city’s Summer Tourism Festival would feature more than 200 programs. The festival, slated to start on July 12, would last for 45 days.
The organizers are optimistic that this time there would be more visitors compared to the last editions of the tourism festival.
The organizers attribute the potential increase to the trend of many Saudis to spend their holidays inside the kingdom instead of visiting foreign tourist destinations, especially those in the US and Europe.
With Jeddah is a gateway to Makkah and Madinah, Islam’s two most important holy sanctuaries, the tremendous growth in the number of Umrah pilgrims is another factor, according to analysts. They expected a 45 percent rise in the number of Umrah pilgrims this season.
Saleh Al-Turki, chairman of the JCCI board members, said the JCCI is the only body authorized to issue licenses for participants in the festival and denied any governmental interference in other licensing. He also stressed that there was no difference of opinion between the JCCI and the Department of Islamic Affairs over the festival.
The delayed announcement of the festival was due to the death of Prince Abdul Majeed and preparations have started on the advertising and media levels, he said. “So far 55 events have been planned. These would grow to exceed 200. These events will be about different social, cultural, sports, family, youth, technical and other activities.”
Ibrahim Bader, executive director of the Department of Tourism Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the person responsible for the festival, said the activities will be at different locations.
