Archaeological excavations and archaeological finds show that the Orontes river was a cradle of civilization. Stone man lived in this area whose climate and environment differ from one town to another. There are mountains, plains, semi- desert, river, etc.
Old peoples including the Akkadians, the Sumerians, the Amorities and the Babylonians lived in Hama region since the 4th millennium B.C.
Tayyebet al- Imam is a town in north Hama. about 15 kilometers to the north the town where, a Byzantine house was discovered recently.
The house consists of an open air square surrounded with rooms and halls. Some of the rooms still have their original mosaic grounds. About one hundred meters to the north of this house, several mosaic paintings were discovered.
Researcher Abdul Razzaq Zakzouk said these paintings represent the floor of a church in basilica form. These mosaic paintings cover an area of land more than 600 square meters. Some of these paintings carry Greek writings dating back to 442 A.D. These mosaic paintings, which are considered the most beautiful mosaic paintings discovered yet, can be seen at the new museum of Hama. |
