Islamic Tourism Ministers Hold Sixth Summit

Islamic Travel Newswire: The sixth Conference of Tourism Ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) adopted a framework of development and cooperation in the tourism field as part of the efforts enhance economic and trade cooperation.
The conference issued the Damascus Declaration in which it called for developing new national and Islamic productions and programs for cultural and Islamic tourism including integrated cultural factors to be marketed through the Internet. The conference called for more tourism investment in the Islamic countries, by organizing meetings and symposiums for interested investors. It also underlined the necessity for coordination among member states for simplifying issuance of visas and customs procedures .
The Declaration called on all Islamic tourist ggroups to exert efforts for promotion of the true and civilized image of Islam and its principles based on tolerance and coexistence, and hosting more media to visit the Islamic countries. It also underlined the importance of inviting the main tourist exporting countries which are issuing travel warnings to their citizens to be accurate, just and objective and not to be biased or exploiting it for political motivations.
Participants described the conference as "a factor in strengthening tourist relations among the Islamic countries and showing the real image of the Islamic world". They said that Syria possesses great tourist potential, and called for increasing tourist investment with Syria.
They also called for exchanging expertise, information and ideas in the field of tourist marketing and training cadres who are working in the tourist domain. The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) submitted to the conference a report on ISESCO's efforts to develop cultural tourism in the member states.
