Air Transport Industry in the Middle East and North Africa and the effects of the Financial Crisis on it
Under the sponsorship of Transport Minister and in coordination with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Syrian Arab Airline held On Monday, 16/3/2009 in the Dedeman hotel (formerly the Damascus Meridian), a seminar about (Air Transport Industry in the Middle East and North Africa and the effects of the Financial Crisis on it), presented by Dr. Majdi Sabri, the Vice-President of the International Air Transport Association of the Middle East and North Africa, in the presence of number of Ministers and the Events competent from the Ministry of Transport , Syrian Arab Airlines , Civil Aviation, the union Chambers of Tourism and some of the largest Travel and Tourism Offices. At the beginning of the presentation, Dr. Sabri made a performance comparison in the field of civil aviation's work during the years 2006 to 2008, showing areas of development and decline in all aspects (technical - financial ...), and expectations for 2009, stating the reasons and circumstances that have had a significant impact on the work in this area and the effects of the Economic Crisis on the Air Transport in the region of Middle East and the world. He also referred to the subject of the importance of safety and security, and the attention paid by IATA on this matter, and the IOSA certificate that must be obtained by these companies to maintain their membership in the International Air Transport Association. At the end of the presentation, he explained the organization's efforts and the steps that seek to support and facilitate the work of Airlines and Civil Aviation, through the development of the old regimes, adding new systems, the abolition of taxes and the reduction of fuel prices... Etc... Ministers of Transport, Tourism and Oil made interventions on the Air Transport Industry, pointing to the difficulties experienced by this industry, particularly in the Middle East, and the necessary steps to correct them. At the end, the Managing Director of Syrian Arab Airline, thanked the Ministers and all the audience for accepting the invitation, and thanked Dr Majdi Sabri, for his presentation and praised his efforts for the Air Transport's development. On the sidelines of the seminar, the Managing Director has received certificates of appreciation for Syrian Arab Airline from Mr. Sabri on behalf of the International Air Transport Association, for obtaining IOSA certificate and the fact that the Syrian Air is the first Airline that has adopted the E-Ticket's system.
