Deir Attieh museum on the highway between Damascus and Homs is one of the greatest achievements of the citizens of Deir Attieh. This museum was built by the people of Deir Attieh and at their expense directed by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Syria.
The museum contains unique and rare archaeological finds in addition to tens of objects of art, coins, jewels and old weapons.
The exhibits on show at Deir Attieh museum date from different ages having close links with the history of the area, mainly Yabrud.
Some of the finds date from the Arab Islamic, bronze and stone age eras.
The museum consists of a main building and a park surrounding it from all directions and a 2600 square meter additional building allocated for new finds and gifts which are donated by local people. Concerned bodies in Deir Attieh discussed the need to set up a specialized committee to reorganize and redisplay the exhibits and finds in a scientific and suitable way in order to attract visitors and tourists and bring the museum to light not only in Syria but also in the world. |
