Excavations at Syria’s Qatna kingdom

www.teshreen.com Archaeological excavation work which is being carried out at Al- Misherfeh [Qatna kingdom in the remote past] proved that the town was populated more than 4500 years ago.
Dr. Michel Maqdisi, chairman of the joint Syrian- German excavation team at the site, said that a big royal palace was revealed about 4 years ago by other excavation team. Dr. Maqdisi added that the most important archaeological find was in 2002. The storage tank of the palace in addition to priceless finds were found inside the palace.
Repair work on the palace is on- going on and the chairman of the German excavation team said the site will be ready to receive tourists in the beginning of 2006. |
