www.teshreen.com The Hama Antiquities Directorate is working on a draft project aiming to turn the site of mosaic revealed in the town of Tayyebet Al- Imam into a museum.
Tayyebet Al- Imam is 17 kilometers to the north of Hama in central Syria.
Tayyebet Al-Imam’s mosaic, which was unearthed in 1983, covers an area of land estimated 600 square meters.
Archaeologists say that these 600- square meters are only part of a bigger mosaic dating from the Byzantine era the 5th century A.D.
Mr. Radi Iqdeh, director of the Hama Antiquities Directorate, said the part of which was revealed Al Tayyebeh mosaic contains geometric, plant and animals decorations in addition to six texts mentioning the names of persons who took part in the creation of this mosaic.
The Tayyebeh Mosaic also contains pictures representing a large number of churches, houses and other relics showing the prevailing architecture of that time. Of the most important among these pictures is Saint Simeon’s Convent. |
