The Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) recently hosted a farewell dinner for outgoing Tourism Malaysia State Director, En Ahmad Johanif bin Mohd Ali, who will be leaving Sarawak to begin a new post in heading Tourism Malaysia New York as Vice President.
The theme for the evening was ‘The Kuching City Tour’. Guests assembled at Sarakraf Pavillion to begin a night tour of the cat city with guest-of-honour En. Ahmad Johanif playing the role of tour guide. Among the stops included the Hong San Si Temple, Kuching Waterfront, Cat Statue at Jalan Padungan and RJ Ayam Penyet restaurant for surprises along the way.
Once the tour returned to Sarakraf Pavillion, guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner at the Absolute Tribal restaurant. Among the guests present were Datuk Abang Haji Karim Bin Tun Abang Haji Openg (President, Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry - SCCI), Datu Haji Ismawi Haji Ismuni (Director, State Planning Unit), Mr Paul D’Arcy (CEO, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching), Mr Mike Cannon (Managing Director, SCB), representatives of Tourism Malaysia Sarawak and SCB team members.
“Having served four years in Sarawak, the mini city tour was a fitting end to the best experience I’ve had. Sarawak is home to bountiful resources and I hope that the State will continue to develop its image as a much sought after destination for business events through its rich culture, adventure and nature,” comments En. Ahmad Johanif.
Datuk Abang Haji Karim, President of SCCI and member of the SCB Board of Directors comments, “We are extremely grateful for En Ahmad Johanif’s support and encouragement throughout the years as a friend, associate and colleague. We wish him all the best in New York and we look forward to work together again and seek new business opportunities abroad in the near future.”
An advocate and great supporter of business events and tourism through his years in Tourism Malaysia Sarawak, En Ahmad Johanif has also sat on the Board of Directors of SCB for the past four years and was appointed an alternate member to the Director-General of Tourism Malaysia in the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).
En Ahmad Johanif will depart to New York come January 2013, beginning the New Year with a new adventure. |
